Use Training Accessories to Promoting Good Cat Behavior

Hi! I am Dr. Adrienne Mulligan, I own Camp Verde Veterinary Clinic, and I am here today on behalf of expertvillage.com to talk to you about cat obedience. So these are some of the accessories that we have talked about in, some of our little lessons here. This is the Scat from Multivet and this is the internet site that you can find these at. The harnesses and leashes I basically got from Petsmart, and most pet stores will carry them, and video training is the thing that I was going to show you next. We have several of those available. I only have one right now, and then there is a book I am going to go over with you in a moment. So this is a little…I got this from Friskies, in fact my mother got it for me from Friskies, and this gives you all sorts of ways that you can train your cat. And they tell you that in 20 minutes you can train your cat with a clicker to do things like come on command, to sit, to lie down, to scratch on a post, and so there are a lot of these out there that can help you learn to train your cat to be a good cat; and this just happens to be one that I have, and probably if you went to Friskies website you could probably get one. And clicker training, the reason we use it is, it is a way to teach the cat positive things. It is a way… it is never negative. You don’t use it to punish the cat when they are doing the wrong thing. It is when you see them scratching their post instead of the chairs they scratched yesterday, you click them, and then they get a treat, and they learn the things you like by the things you click. The things you click, the behaviors that you click are the behaviors you like, and give them a treat for and so it is positive reinforcement training, dogs are using it all the time and cats can be taught that way as well, for movies and all sorts of things. So there are a lot of different videos about that.
