Playing 'Hotel California' on Guitar

JOE WILES: I'm excited that we're on our top 10 of our countdown of the 80 most downloaded guitar tabs on the Internet. And coming in at number 10 is "Hotel California" by the Eagles. Let's take a look. Now we're going to start this. We're going to bar the entire 7th fret with our index finger, then we're going to take our ring and pinkie and put it on the 9th fret of the A and the D strings. This chord would sound like this. Okay? When we strum it, we're going to kinda give it a--we're not going to strum the highest string, okay? Then when we come back, we're going to keep the same chord shape but we're going to hit the G string, then the B string, then the D string, then the B string, then the G string again. Okay? This part sounds like this, slowly. And then we're going to end it off on the high E string. Again. Then we're going to reform, bring our index finger to the 7th fret of the G string and our pinkie to the 10th fret of the high E string. We're going to hit these both at the same time. Slide up two frets and then we'll start our new chord but, until then--onto that point, it sounds like this. Our next chord is our index finger on the 8th fret of the D string, our ring and pinkie are on the 11th fret of the G and B strings, and then our middle finger is going to sit there on the 9th fret of the high E string till we get to it. To start this one off, we're going to strum these three notes on the D, G and B strings. Then we're going to hit the E string, B string, G string and then the E string again, then the G string and then B string. This little bit sounds like this. Slowly, these two riffs put together sound like this. Work on that a little bit and the whole phrasing. The picking of it is a little awkward because you're not going in a line on the strings, so work through that. And in the next segment, we're going to finish off. See you there.
