JOE WILES: We've reached number 16 on our countdown. It's Blink 182's "Anthem Part Two." Let's take a look. The introductory riff is super easy. We're going to put our pinkie on the 3rd fret of the high E string, our index finger on the 1st fret of the B string, okay? We're just going to go--we're going to hit that one, then that one, then that one, then that one, just alternate the two strings. One, okay? We're going to release our pinkie and use the pad of our finger on the 1st fret of the B and the high E string, same strings. Roll our finger back up to expose the open E string and you're still on the 1st fret of the B string. Roll your finger back. You can even use your ring finger up here, okay? Release that ring finger; use the pad of your index finger for both frets. Roll your finger up, so an open E and 1st fret B. Roll your finger back to the pad. Slowly, those notes together sound like this. Now I want you to pay close attention to my right hand. My picking pattern is down, up, down, up, down, up, down, up, down, up, down, up. This is a great little riff to practice your alternate picking. So if you're not good at it, use this riff to practice your down-up picking, okay? To speed, that same riff sounds like this. In our next segment, we're going to talk about another cool riff from the same song, and I hope to see you there.
