How to Disassemble an Accordion

AMANDA CLAIRE: All right. So, now we've got all those pins off, they're here on the table. And I'm just sort of gently going to try and get it open. Now, sometimes with age, it can be stuck; maybe there might be a little gasket in there, a little air gasket. So, you want to kinda be careful prying it open but once all those pins are out, it should come open pretty easily. And lo and behold, there we are the inside of the accordion. And so what we can see here are--one thing we see right away are these are the banks of reeds. Basically what they are, are gigantic harmonicas that are just stuck right there inside the accordion. So, these are the treble ones. These are the banks of reeds that vibrate when you manipulate the piano. Here, the banks of reeds that vibrate when you manipulate the bass end. So, they're just like giant harmonicas. So, we're going to try and pull one of these out and get a better look at it now.
