How to Make Loops for D Rings on Backpack

This is Vicki Walker for Expert Village. We are working today on the backpack for a little girl and the backpack that we would be using rather then having grommets like the one on the bottom of this backpack. We are using D rings. I have cut off some loops out of extra fabric that I have of the ladybug fabric. I have pressed under the edges and I'm making a loop out of these that would be inserted through the D rings. Then we would go onto the bottom part of the seam on our backpack when we start to sew the seam down. So I would sew the next to the press edge of the loop to get it ready for that. The length of the loop does not matter but the one that I have here is 4 1/2 inches long. A little bit shorter would probably be just fine and I would probably not end up using all the length on this. We can cut it down some when we insert it into the seam in just a moment. For now I would go ahead and insert it through the D ring and I'm going to sew close to the D ring here. To sew the 2 pieces together. That is how we prepare our D ring for inserting into the seam.
