Introduction to Bass Drum Exercises

JOEL SEIGEL: Alright. So, now we've got a way to develop some more with our hands, strength and control, we're going to go ahead and move to the bass drum. Now, this is a place where--this is an area that a lot of people will kind of put on the back burner. There's a few reasons for that. It's usually a little harder 'cause you're not--it requires a little more acumen than you're used to with your hands. We're all used to working with our hands. We're just basically used to walking with our feet. We don't do a lot of activity, otherwise, with our feet. You also--if you're at kind of mediocre club and you've got a kick drum that's not tuned that great or it's just--if you got it tuned super low, you can kinda get away with not playing very accurately. You want to go ahead and nip this kind of things in the bud. You should just aim to be a proficient player with legitimate skill and legitimate knowledge that--so, we're going to focus on building your chops and--not only your bass drum foot, we'll get to our hi-hat foot later. Right now we're going to focus on our bass drum.
