Drum Exercises & Tips

JOEL SEIGEL: Alright. So, now that we've got just a little taste of what keeping a groove is like, I want to talk about some ways to solidify that groove and solidify your ability and your chops. So, we're getting into the realm of exercises here. I want to show you just pretty much one of the most basic exercises for your hands and it has to do--you're going to be keeping some eighth notes with one-handed sticking. Now, this is going to work your timekeeping with your right or left hand depending--traditionally with your right hand and this is also just--every bit of practice you do is going to help fortify that internal pulse. Mind you, you're going to be practicing with a metronome at home but even so, that just helps even more to internalize that beat. So, we're going to start with eight on a hand.
