Alternating Bass & Snare Drums

JOEL SIEGEL: Alright. So, we're one step closer in constructing our beat. Now we're going to take--this is where the coordination comes in. This is where some people just totally fall off the wagon. If you do, don't worry. If you want to play drums, just don't even worry about it. Get back on and keep trying. You'll get it eventually. Those quarter notes on one and three in the bass drum, this is the quarter notes on two and four in the snare drum. So, we're going to combine that drive from the bass drum with that backbeat, that feel in the snare drum. Here's what it sounds like. Alright. Now it's your turn to play along. So, same thing, I'll count you off, we'll do a few bars. See how it feels. One, two, ready, play. Alright. So, either you're really happy right now or you're totally bummed out or you're a little disappointed but you're ready to go on. So, either way, we're going to slow it down just a little bit because for a beginner, that might be a little fast. So, I'm going to take it down fifteen clicks here and we'll play it right here. I'll count you off again. One, two, ready, play. Alright. Now you can make your girlfriend or boyfriend dance already. You're already gettin' there.
