JOEL SIEGEL: Alright. So, now you've heard that little series of eighth notes and the hi-hat you maybe chomping at the beat to--you can taste the beat, you know it's almost there, we're getting there. So, we're going to go ahead and move towards actually constructing and playing a beat. So, this is--we're almost to the fun part. It's been grueling so far, I know, but you'll be happy once we get the beat and you know what the hell you do. So, what we're going to do is I'm going to play some quarter notes on the bass drum. And what I'm actually going to do is I'm going to play a quarter note and then play a quarter rest which just means I'm not going to play. I'm going to leave that second beat out and then I'm going to play another quarter note in beat three and then leave beat four out, play quarter rest. So, this is a good opportunity for you to really solidify the concept of quarter note, the rest and where the beat lines up with the quarter note. So, this is playing beats one and three on the kick drum. Let's take a look. Three, four. Go ahead and try it with me, I'll count you off. One, two, ready, play. And off. Can't you taste it? We're getting there. We'll go back to the hi-hat in this next clip.
