How to Work Lights on a Trailer

Hi, I'm Albert Hedgepeth with Expert Village. Today we're going to talk a little bit about trailer maintenance. Right now let's talk a little bit about a lighting system on a trailer. Trailers have lights so that you can warn other drivers on the road what you're doing and what the vehicle and the trailer is about to do. These keep everyone in the cars around you and in your car safe and allow you to go ahead and make turns which a lot of times are blindsided to a lot of people viewing what you're doing. In maintaining trailer lights, there's a couple thing you ought to think about. Upgrading your lights is a good idea. These days they're coming out with LED lights to replace old classic standard lights. These lights are brighter, they use less energy and usually have a cooler modern housing to them. So a lot of trailers these days, if you are replacing the lights, it?s probably a good idea to go ahead and replace them with LEDs. If you fire your boat up and you hook up the trailer and you get your wiring harness all fired up and you come back and none of your lights are working, one of the first things you ought to check is the ground system. Make sure that all the grounds for the lights are actually connected. Make sure that your wiring harness is connected to the truck appropriately and then also you want to check and just walk your hands down the wires to make sure that the wiring hasn't been cut or frayed in any of the locations. Remember that lights are important because they keep you safe while you're on the road. They warn other people what your doing and what the vehicle is about to do. Go ahead and keep them maintained, keep you and your family safe while you're driving down the road with your trailer.
