How to Cut Fabric for Valance Curtains

This is Vicki Walker for Expert Village. We are continuing to work on our valance and the board that we where working on the last clip has now been completed. We finished both ends and all long the back here stapling around the fabric around the board. So none of the raw edges would be showing once we get the window treatment up. What we need to do now is to cut the actual valance itself to the length that we need to go around the board that we would be stapling the valance to. To determine the length which I have already marked here and we would cut in just a moment but I will show you how I came up with the measurement. The board would be on the wall held up by L brackets that would be screwed into the bottom of the board. So the valance would go around the outside edge. I need to allow for 3 1/2 inches here and here and the large pleat that would be in the front of the valance. I need to allow 10 inches for that entire pleat. In front of the pleat we would be using cover buttons to go that would be attach the front of that once it is attached to the valance board here. So what we need to do is to cut the fabric where I have marked it here. So we would be sure to have all the length that we need to go around the valance board. Then we can begin assembling the actual valance itself to prepare it to be attached to the board. That is how we prepare our fabric to get it ready for the next step.
