How to Collect Japanese Cartoon Figurines

Japan and character cartoon collectibles is huge. Let me talk for a minute about Smurfs. How many people remember the Smurfs? Raise your hand. Okay. I remember the Smurfs. Here's a Smurf cup. If you see anything like this with Smurfs especially if they're earlier. I think the Smurfs was like what, 70's, not sure my memory serves me correctly. But this is a Smurf. Wallace Beery made in Japan. So this is a collectible for a few reasons. First of all it's a cute cup, if you like cute cups. Second of all it's a Smurf and it's signed. They call it signed when it has the name on the bottom. And it's also in wonderful condition and it's a Smurf which are hugely collectible. I have people come in, they say, Jan do you have any Smurfs? I say certainly. I also mentioned this before but all the Snoopy stuff is highly collectible. Think about some of your favorite heroes. You're going to find made in Japan memorabilia. Think about it. Who do we love? Bullwinkle. Wasn't that great? Bullwinkle. We had that big tall lady and the guy that was the Russian spy which I can't think of his name, but weren't they great? Natasha. Then we had Big Boy. You know that restaurant? Bob's Big Boy? Everywhere you could find Big Boy banks, Big Boy cups. Big Boys. We could find it all. Don't you wish you had one of those giant Big Boys that used to be in front of the original Pasadena Big Boy in your back yard? Because now they're worth thousands of dollars. Somebody took that one I heard. There's also Wiley Coyote. Hanna-Barbera characters. You've got Bugs Bunny. You've got super hero characters. You've got Superman. There's a lot of memorabilia with Superman. So remember all the stuff that you had as a kid that was nostalgic to you. Baby boomers have the discretionary income. We spend the money. It's good to buy it. Good investment. Remember, if you liked it as a kid then buy it because it's collectible. Or if your Mom did.
