TRAVIS JOHNS: Hi, I'm Travis Johns with Expert Village and I'm going to be talking to you about lighting in your home office. Lighting is very important for a couple of reasons. Number one, you want to make sure that the lighting in your home office compliments what you're going to be doing at your desk. As you can see, I've got this light at my desk which is sort of soft, it's not too oppressive. I have a lot of low level lights around my room to make sure that I'm not constantly assaulted by a lot of light. When you're staring at monitors for an extended period of time, you want to make sure that the light around you isn't going to be making your eyes tired before they actually need to be. You want to make sure that the lighting can help you creatively. Personally, I don't work well under big, oppressive fluorescent lights. I probably could not do my job in a grocery store or a CVS or a supermarket for example. The light that I have gives me what I need when I'm in the room and allows me to see my work but that's about it. One thing to remember when it comes to video editing, any sort of graphics application, you're going to be staring-- concentrating on the screen very intently and you want to make sure you're not going to do that in the dark because your eyes can become tired faster than they normally would.
