TRAVIS JOHNS: Hi, I'm Travis Johns with Expert Village and I'm going to be talking to you about essential software you will need for your post-production home office. When it comes to editing software, depending on your skill set, your level of expertise, you want to make choices obviously that are best suited to you. Two of the most popular types of software out there for editing are Final Cut Pro and Avid. Avid is a lot pricier but depending on what you're comfortable with, it's an excellent piece of software. When it comes to editing software, you want to make sure that depending on the project, especially depending on what client you're working with, if you're going to be sharing media, sharing project files, you need to make sure that they'll be able to use your project files depending on what their using. When it comes to graphics applications, obviously Photoshop is pretty popular across the board. When it comes to motion graphics, After Effects is an excellent piece of software that I've been using for over five years. You want to make sure that your editing software and your graphics applications, anything you're going to be needing to put together the final product will all work very well with each other and developing a workflow between those applications is also very important. You want to make sure that you're not going out and getting the latest, greatest piece of software just because it is the latest and greatest. You want to make sure that it's suited to your needs and it's not more than you actually need. You want to make sure that all of your software is suited to you but it does not exceed your actual needs because down the line, if you plan on doing this for an extended period of time, you're going to run into some budget concerns that you could've avoided in the first place.
