Double Lift High Hat Drum Exercises: Part 4

JOEL SIEGEL: All right. So, the next variation we're going to do, we're going to do another two lifts. We're going to shift them now to the upbeats of three and four. So, this is the first time that mechanically, they're going to differ from each other because what's going to happen is you're going to be lifting on the upbeat of three with your left foot which means it'd be coming down on four. What else is playing on four? You're going to have your right hand with your 8th notes, your left hand with the snare drum. Okay? What happens on the upbeat of four? That's where we want our lift, so we're going to be open with our left foot which means we're going to be coming back down on beat one. Okay? What else is playing on one? Well, we have the left foot, we have the right hand playing the 8th notes and we have the kick drum playing on beat one. Okay? So, I want you to think about the way things are lining up. This is the way it sounds like real quick. Okay?
