Hey! I am Mark Black and I am here on expertvillage.com. I am here to talk to you about music theory and learning how to read music. The octave is the other interval I want to talk about and that is from one note to the next note with the same name and so this is an A, we are in bass clef, do not worry about it. Any A to the very next A is 12 half steps. So if we move up by half step starting on an A and I am to go over the piano and I am going to go up, I am going to go 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 half steps. It took me 12 half steps to get from one A to the next A. So that is an octave, 12 half steps separating two notes from the same A with the same A. So an octave above an F sharp is an F sharp. An octave below a C flat is the C flat. An octave above a D is a D. Okay.
