Questions & AnswersHey! I am Mark Black and I am here on expertvillage.com. I am here to talk to you about music theory and learning how to read music. Okay now, we want to talk a little bit more about the half step and that was the smallest interval in Western Music and what I want you to see, I was talking about the piano and how that instrument is made to be half step; so is this instrument and two things you can see about the guitar which you cannot see in other instrument and one is you can see that the frets, each one of these bars; this is what makes the sound on the guitar. So where those frets are is what actually makes the note. Now you can see that those frets could be closer together, they could be further apart. Somebody made this instrument like that and that is a characteristic of Western Music. Second thing I want to show you is that this is a B and this is a C. I just want you to hear that on the piano real quick exactly the same sound.
