Tips on Drum Exercises

JOEL SIEGEL: All right, welcome back. I'm still Joel. We've been talking about, so far, some different beats and, just, the general approaches to the drums. If you've been watching, we've kind of been chugging along in a fairly slow pace. I wanted to do this just to kind of iterate the importance of pretty much just each thing we've been doing, a lot of it being kinda thinking about where your hands are lining up with your feet with different beats and stuff like that. We also have talked about some--your grip and your approach so you just kinda have that vocabulary and you can kind of be aware of that when you're practicing and making sure you're playing what you want to be playing. We've also covered some basic exercises. We did eight on a hand. So what I want to do today, we'll start off with some kind of slightly more advance exercises if maybe you're looking for a little more of a challenge, if eight on a hand is coming pretty easily to you. We'll do a variation on that and we'll also get into some sixteenth notes. You'll find out what those are in a minute if you don't already know. And then we'll also do some work on the hi-hat. So this will hopefully kinda get you to where--if you got some buddies that you're ready to--you really want to play with, you can get in there and they can turn on the amps and you get behind the kit and really sound like you--and actually know what you're doing. So check it out.
