Hi, this is Jon on behalf of Expert Village. In this video clip I will be talking about some specific safety rules for our sander. Now since this can be a very dangerous machine, you always want to make sure to keep your hands at least 6 inches away from the belt. If your piece is smaller than that, you want to create some type of jig to help hold it. Now before you sand on any material, you will want to inspect it to make sure that there is no foreign matter, maybe a nail or screw or other debris that is in the piece of stock. This is going to damage your sander, damage your piece of work and potentially injure you. Now when the tool is not in use, you always want to turn it in the off position and when you are done, you can always remove your safety key and this is going to prevent anyone turning the sander on. Additionally you never want to force the work piece while you are sanding. Again, this is probably just going to cause an injury to yourself, damage the sander and your work piece.
