Sharpening a Brad Point Drill Bit

WILLIE: Hi, my name is Willie. I'm from Carson Saw Shop here in Eugene, Oregon and I've been sharpening tools here for 25, 30 years, and I'm here with Expert Village today. This time I have a different type of drill. It's called a Brad Point Drill. It's made for drilling in wood. It has a center pilot, and then, the outside cuts the wood, cuts a lot better cleaner hole. Now, I'll show you how I do those. I use the end of the wheel this time to come in to it. So I'm coming in with the edge of the wheel. If I don't want to leave the outside edges just a smidgen high, so if they cut the wood with a knife-edge effect, and the pilot's need touched a little bit, may be go back, and sculpt them a little. You can kind of adjust them to your own personal needs, depending on what kind of material you're working in. If you're cutting plastics, or UHMW, or something that tends to grab and roll out, then you might want to blunt the edges a little bit.
