How to Reinstall a Wheel After Replacing Shocks

Hi, my name is Nate McCullough, on behalf of Expert Village. In these clips we're going to talk about the proper way to inspect, remove, replace and maintenance your vehicles shock absorbers. In this clip I'm going to talk about the proper way to reinstall your vehicles wheel entire assembly and to spin down your vehicles lug nuts. What I'm going to do is move closer. I like to use my legs whenever possible, to hold something heavy. What I'm going to do is just guide with my hands and pick up with my legs. Line it up on the studs and slide it into place. Once you have it in place, I'll use my feet to hold it. I'll grab my lug nuts out of my magnetic tray and spin them down. I always like to start with the bottom lug nut first. I'm just going to take and spin it down, a little bit. As you can see, when I release my feet the tire is going to want to rock out a little bit. That bottom lug nut will hold it and make sure that I can start all my other lug nuts. We're going to use a specific pattern when we're snugging them down. It's called the star pattern. What that does is ensures that the wheel is going to be seeded flat and true to the vehicles hub. The star pattern looks pretty much, just like so. It looks like a 5 pointed star. I'm going to start with my bottom lug nut, from there you're going to go to your next farthest one away. You have two choices, just pick one. You can go to this one or this one. What I'm going to do is go from here to here. From here to here. From here to here, and from here to here. As you can see what I did, I'll start from the beginning again is draw a 5 pointed star. 1,2,3,4,5. What that will do is allow the self-centering mechanisms that are designed into the lug nut and the wheel to seat the wheel true and straight. Now when I'm spinning them down, I'm going to follow my star pattern. I have my 4 way here. I'm going to slip it on the lug nut there, and you can see the wheel begin to seat. Just spin them down, just snug. It is impossible to tork your vehicles wheel, with it is in the air. As you can see, if I try to apply leverage to it, just going to free spin on me. I'm going to put it back to where it was and go to this one here. This one is the next one in my star pattern, and the final one. There you go. That is the proper way to reinstall your vehicles wheel entire assembly. To start your lug nuts and to snug them down in the star pattern.
