How to Test Your Shocks

Hi, my name is Nate McCullough on behalf of Expert Village. In these clips we are going to talk about the proper way to inspect, remove, replace and maintenance your vehicle's shock absorbers. In this clip, I am going to demonstrate a very basic test to see if my shock absorber is beginning to fail. What I am going to do is grab a hold of the front of my vehicle. You can use the fender or your bumper and I am going to oscillate the spring. I am going to assimilate hitting a pot hole, get my vehicle rocking pretty good and assimilate a pot hole and let go. As you can see it rocked up and down three times. My shock absorbers are actually in good shape. You are not going to want to replace these because you can see they only went up and down three times. If you get more travel than that, it is going to indicate that your shocks have failed and require replacement.
