How to Calculate Area in Square Yards

Hi, this is Jon on behalf of Expert Village. In this video clip we'll be calculating square yards. Carpeting is typically calculated in square yards this room we're going to be putting new carpet so we need to figure out how many square yards of carpet we need. First we need to get a length and a width measurement, the width here is about 9 1/2 feet and the length is almost 14 feet. If I plug in my values and take my length of 14 feet times the width of 9 1/2 feet I get a total of 133 square feet. Now to convert from square footage to square yards we need to divide a total by 9, the total then is 14.77 square yards but I'm going to have to round that to a total of 15 square yards that I have to purchase.
