Quarter Rest: Basic Essentials of Music Theory
Hey! I am Mark Black and I am here on expertvillage.com. I am here to talk to you about music theory and learning how to read music. Okay, and in music we have to measure silence as well as sounds. So, we have a quarter note ba… ba… ba… ba… we have also got a quarter rest, one beat of silence. Now, it is a really pretty hard to write a quarter rest and I am going to kind of mess up one, this will be da… da… da… da: four beats of silence. Now you never going to see that, we are going to talk about larger silence values in a moment. You would see something like this, a quarter note, a quarter rest, and two more quarter rest that would be like this. So, this would be da… da… when you look at that you may think it’s dumb, but in a real song, it might be something cool. So, I know it is kind of simple right now. So, silence and sing out and then we have a rhythm, the time and then we have the pitch the two primary areas of music.
