The Lutz Ice Skating Jump

Hi! I'm Simone Fisher and I'm here at Clearwater Ice Arena in sunny Clearwater, Florida. On behalf of Expert Village, we're going to introduce to you some advanced figure skating jumps. This is Victoria and she will be demonstrating a Lutz jump. With the Lutz, the take off must be from the backward outside edge of the one foot and onto the toe of the other foot. She's going to be making one rotation in the air and that will be in the direction opposite the curve of the take off edge. The landing will be made on the backward outside edge. That's what she will be doing. Here she goes. She's taking some backwards crossovers right now. Watch as her arm goes back, she's getting ready to jump, she picks into the ice, and she's holding her landing. She did a nice Lutz jump and she used her knee to get up there. That gives her more height. That was the Lutz jump performed by Victoria.
