Visualization Techniques for Public Speaking

DON VARNEY: Hi, I'm Don Varney, founder of Varney Speaks, and I'm here on behalf of Expert Village. Eye contact with your audience is critical. Your comfort zone is critical. There's this horrible thing, and I highly recommend you don't do it and I'll explain to you why, and that is visualize your audience naked. And that'll make you more relaxed and you'll think it's funny and you'll do a better job. Well, I don't know about you that if I'm visualizing the audience naked, I'm probably going to spend too much time laughing and not really paying attention to what it is that I'm supposed to say or do. So better than that, visualize your audience as people that really want to hear what you have to say. They've gotten in their cars. They've driven across the town. They've spent money. They're there. They're having a dinner. They're excited to hear what it is that you're an expert on. They want to hear you. Visualize a group of friends out there that are excited about it. And then whatever you do, as we talked earlier, don't discount any portion of that room.
