Makeup Tips for Public Speaking

DON VARNEY: Hi, I'm Don Varney, founder of Varney Speaks, and I'm here on behalf of Expert Village. Alright, in an awful lot of times, you going to sit and think, "Make-up? I don't think so." Well, as a professional speaker, you have to consider a few things. One, when you're onstage, you want to be the confident looking one. You don't want the one with the shiny forehead and you don't want oil on your face and you don't want to have the appearance of being nervous by virtue of shine. I know, in my particular situation, for an example, I have darkness under my eyes and when you're on stage, that's even more accented. Over the years, what I've found is that professional actors and the people that are onstage or in front of cameras always wear make-up for a reason. I strongly suggest, you get you a little powder, you get a little base, you get something you can use just to make you--not look better as we know 'cause we're not necessarily the pretty people, but will make you look, at least, more professional, more put together. And when you're onstage, the bottom line, you'll look more authoritative and you'll be more professional.
