DON VARNEY: Hi, I'm Don Varney, founder of Varney Speaks, and I'm here on behalf of Expert Village. You know, it's kind of interesting. There's opportunities when you're in the business world and you're speaking to meet people. You're actually recruiting and it's kind of interesting because today, we happened to be sitting at a table that Teddy Roosevelt actually recruited Rough Riders here in the Texas area. And when you sit back and you think about the history of recruiting, well, you know what? You're going to be recruiting through the entire history of your public speaking career, looking for opportunities, talking to people, looking for the ability to be able to say your spoken word to enhance the people that are listening. Preparation is a big part of being a public speaker. When you're setting and you're looking at your work and you're figuring out what it is you're going to say that day, you've gotta make sure that your thoughts are down on paper logically presented in a manner that allows you to do a flow through every thing that you're going to talk about that day. It becomes critical, that as you're looking at your notes, that they follow that sequence of one, two, three, four to the end. You can't jump around. You cannot go left and right because your audience will not be able to follow along with you. Preparation, without it, you're going to sound like an amateur.
