I am Joe Marshall with Expert Village.com and today we are going to learn how to win at blackjack. I would like to make some side notes. There is an option in Blackjack called insurance and insurance will happen when the dealer’s up card is an ace. He has a good possibility that there is a 10 here for a total of 21 and he will offer the players insurance. Most people are confused because I think they are insuring their hand that their hand will win against this, but actually they are insuring that the dealer has a Blackjack and that will payout usually 2-1 or 3-1 depending on where you are at and if you place it as a separate bet entirely that you place near his cards. I wanted to mention insurance because they will offer every time an ace comes up and there is a face down card that you can’t see. I would never take insurance, just my word of advise unless you know for certain that he has got a 21 because you have been counting the cards whether it will be a cluster count or high low system and you know you have not seen too many face cards come up but he is bound to have one. It is a good possibility that you will want to go ahead and bet. Another thing there is at some casinos they offer an option to surrender. Basically, if you know the dealer has an up card of 10 and you have say a hard 14. For example you think your are going to be losing, you want to get out of the game early if you opt out to surrender you only lose half your original bet that you wagered in the beginning. So, there is also an option you want to ask if they have early surrender. Some casinos don’t because it gives the player a 0.65% advantage. It doesn’t even give you a 1% advantage over the house but they think 0.65% advantage is a way too much of an advantage for you to have, so sometimes they won't even offer surrender. Unless you are in a Far East country, they usually always will offer it. And the other thing I wanted to talk about was a natural. If you are dealt, say that the dealer is dealing you dealt an ace and in your next turnaround you are dealt a king that is a 21, that is called a natural because you do not have hit to get a 21 you already have a 21. A natural is great because you get paid before the game even goes any further and you win automatically so you can just take a break; there are a few things I wanted to mention. Another thing I wanted to mention is when you come into casino and there is an open seat you want sit down where ever there is an open seat available. If the dealer is in the middle of a game you want to wait to cash in and your cash for chips until he collects all the cards and gets ready to start another around at which point he would just place your cash down in front of your seat and say that you want some chips for it, he will take the cash and give some chips and play. You never want to touch your original bet once it is placed and if you are going to the bathroom you want to ask for a place holder. The dealer will place a clear plastic chip in front of your seat and it usually gives you anywhere from 10-15 minutes spot reserve on that seat. Most importantly, since you are in a casino you want to pick up your chips and take them with you whether you are going to make a phone call or go to bathroom because you never know what could happen. So I just wanted to mention those things.
