Hello, my name is Dr. Susan Jewell, and on behalf of Expert Village today I'm going to talk to you about how to detect prostate cancer. In other words, how can you see some of the signs and symptoms and what do you need to do to reduce the chance of getting prostate cancer? Or if you do have it, what are the symptoms and signs that would tell you that you should go and see the doctor immediately. But before I start, let me introduce myself. I'm a clinical research physician in the area of oncology which is cancer and also a stem cell scientist in AIDS and HIV. And I've studied at the National Cancer Institute and also at UCLA School of Medicine. Now in this series of clips on how to detect prostate cancer, I'm going to talk to you about where the anatomy of the prostate and where it's located in the body. And also some of the risk factors for individuals males to get prostate cancer or put them at an increased risk of getting prostate cancer. And also some of the important signs and symptoms of prostate cancer because prostate cancer at the early stages is asymptomatic as we would say which means you don't feel or see any signs of the cancer. And by the time that you actually have symptoms, it means that it has grown or probably spread. So, that's why it's so important that you understand and you recognize some of these signs and symptoms of prostate cancer and that you do a regular prostate exam done by the medical profession not by yourself on a regular basis. So enjoy the series of clips on how to detect prostate cancer.
