I am Joe Marshall with Expert village.com and today we are going to learn how to win at Blackjack. We are going to discuss when you want to double down on soft total and then again that all is dependent upon the dealer’s up card. In this case, the player has a soft total of 8 or 18. Here he has got an ace and 7 as a soft total of 8 or 18. If the dealer has 3 through 6, which he does, he is going to want to double down on that. So, he would place an equal bet of his original wager and the dealer would give him a card and he turns out to have a 20, which is great, because if you have a soft 20 or even a hard 20 you never want to double down and in this case he is just going to stand because he is fine and go on. If your cards again are an ace and 9 which is a total of soft 20, you never want to double down because 20 is a great hand, you have a great chance of winning and you can only screw things up and give yourself a lower total by hitting a soft 20. If you have a soft 19 or a 9 you only want to double down if the dealer has a 6 because he still has to hit. Even if he has a 16 he is more likely to bust, which means you get double your winnings. An ace and a 7 which is what we just had here, we just played, a soft 7 or 17 you would want to play if the dealer has a 2 through 6 as his up card, you want to double down that as well. Down here an ace 5 through ace 2 basically all the way down, is always going to be the same. If the dealer has a 4, 5 or 6 showing, you are going to want to double down if you have any thing between this range here. This is also another chart that you need to memorize if you want to win.
