Hard Double Down Strategies for Blackjack

I am Joe Marshall with Expert Village.com and today we are going to learn how to win at Blackjack. We have discussed when the stand on soft and hard totals and when to hit on soft and hard totals. The next option a player has is to double down on a hard or soft total and this guy here, he has got a hard total of 11 against the dealer’s up card of 3. In the case where he has 11, your card will equal 11. You are always going to want to double down no matter what he has because you can’t bust on an 11. You can only improve the hand, so he would want to double down. That would be what would normally look like and when he says double down he will place an equal amount of this first wager and that is what it would look like. So the dealer would then deal him another card and this is great because he has got a 21 so, he is going to stay. Say for example, if his card is totaled 10 instead of 11 on the first round he would double down still because the dealer’s up card of 3 falls in between 2 through 9. If the player had a 9, a total of 9 he would double down. If the dealer had a up card of 2 through 6 and if he had a total of 8 he would only want to double down only if the dealer had a 6 showing and the reason being is he still only has a possibility of having a 16, at which case he has to hit it because he can’t stay on 16 and he is more likely to bust; that is a bad situation for the dealer. So those are the strategies you want to memorize for doubling down on your hard totals.
