KIVETT BEDNAR: To play the first lick in the first chorus of the "D-Natural Blues" off of "The Incredible Jazz Guitar of Wes Montgomery" by Wes Montgomery, place your ring finger on the 7th fret of the 3rd string. That's a D and we're starting on a D7 chord. So, until we change chords, these notes that I'm playing will be superimposed on top of that D7 chord. So anyway, you're going to start with your ring finger on the 3rd fret, I mean, 3rd string of the 7th fret. And your lick should sound like this. Okay, I'm going to do that one more time, really slowly. Once again, fast, and what we're doing here is we're outlining the D7 by putting a 9 on top of it. First, we got the tonic. Then, we got the dominant 7th, and then we got the 9th.
