How to Sear a Pot Roast

Hi, this is Josiah Owen and today we are going to talk about making pot roast. At this point we are going to go ahead and pour about a 1/4 cup of olive oil in our pan. We are going to turn it up on medium, medium high. What we are going to do we are going to sear the meat before we put it in with the vegetables until it is almost ready when you see the oil just slide back and forth that easily. You can feel the heat there as well. So go ahead and take our meat, go ahead and roll it one quick time. Lay this face down. You see the oil is ready cause it is starting to bubble up around the sides. We are going to do this about 30 seconds to a minute on each side. Make sure that the flour and the crust is on there nicely. Now that this side you can see is kind of done go ahead and flip this to the other side. You see this nice little coating coming on our roast. So we don't want to cook this too long just long enough to sear the flavor in; about 30 seconds to a minute on each side. Making a minute on the really big pieces and turn to the side to get all of this and press it back down and get that front little pieces. There you go and now it is ready to go in.
