RICK GEISSLER: Hi, I'm Rick Geissler, expertvillage.com, coming to you from A&R Tire, talking about how to buy tires. When you're talking about spare tires, what we do is we look at the spare tire. We make sure the inflation is proper. As far as original equipment and the manufacturer putting the space-saver tires in there, it is our opinion the space saver is fine. Usually, the wheel wells in these cars today are smaller so you can't go ahead and replace a full-size tire in that space-saver area. So therefore, you'll have a hump in your trunk, and of course, nobody will be happy with that. So it's also the other thing, the positive about a space-saver tire, the tire is good for about 5,000 miles without any problems. The concept of a spare tire is to get you into the service station to get your tire repaired. So keep that tire inflated properly, and every time we bring a customer's car for rotation and balance, of course, we always check that air pressure in that space-saver tire. Space saver is nice and easy for a customer to handle. They're about half the weight of a regular full-size tire. But as far as your maintenance is keeping those tires rotated, balanced, and the space-saver or a full-size spare aired out properly.
