Signs of a Worn Tire

RICK GEISSLER: Hi, I'm Rick Geissler, expertvillage.com, coming to you from A & R Tire, talking about how to buy tires. Some of the signs that you can see when looking at a customer's tire and telling them they need a replacement is tread wear indicator. All-passenger and light-truck tires, there's a tread wear indicator. That's a bar going through the tire. It's a visual strip of rubber going through. You can see that at 2/32. At 2/32, those tires will quickly [SOUNDS LIKE] devolve and it's due for a replacement. General cracking, that means in the side wall, the tire is cracking, and that is not a safe condition. Too many fiber repairs, what's happening is that the moisture will get into those holes, rust that steal-belted core and that will separate the tire. Side wall cracking is another indication. And we also see a lot of people that have tires on their car for four, five, six months and they've got such a poor alignment condition, there is excessive wear on one side more than the other, and that's time to replace that tire also.
