The French Drop Illusion Magic Trick Explained

Hi! This is Dave Foydel with expertvillage.com about to teach you the French drop. Alright, this next one here is a classical magic. It is called the French drop; it is great way to vanish a coin. You can take any coin, put it here, I grab it with my left hand, tap it over here and it is completely gone. Now for explanation purposes here is the coin over here; it never actually leaves my right hand. I am going to turn to this side here so you see what happens. As I come over here I am actually going to lift my thumb off and let that coin fall, and that happens the same time this hand is over top. So as I come like this, I let that one fall and then I grab. I am actually grabbing nothing and the real coin is here. Now this is a tricky thing to do because your brain, when you do this, your brain wants to close this hand because that is the hand the coin is in. You have to go work over that and make sure this hand stays pretty uncovered and this one is completely closed. Now what I do is I have a pen and this uses a little bit of misdirection here and it kind of throws them off. When I grab this here, if I was not to do anything and just open this hand, everyone would know the coin was over there because that is the last place they saw it. So what I do it is when I make this coin here vanish, I grab this here and I use this hand, and that throws a suspicion off and it breaks up a bit, so it is going to be harder for them to backtrack and figure out where that coin is, and I tap it and it is gone, just like that.
