Cap Iron Tips of a Jack Plane

Hi, this is Jon on behalf of Expert Village. In this video clip I would be talking cap iron tips. The cap iron is located on top of the iron and again the iron being the blade. Now this cap iron actually sits on top of the iron for that blade that is also known as a chip breaker. So this is going to help break away all the wood chips that have accumulated. Now you want to adjust the cap iron so there is just a small amount revealed on the iron itself. When you have it positioned correctly, you want to tighten the cap iron screw. Now one thing you want to watch for is this gap. As you tighten it the cap iron is actually going to bend slightly and close that gap. Now you want to make sure that it does not bend it so much that you are bending iron itself just the cap iron.
