Learn What Characteristics to Look for When Scouting for Circuit Bending Items

AMANDA CLAIRE: Another thing that you really want to think about when you choose something for circuit building and I've kind of already said this but I want to get into the idea a little more which is does it already make sounds that you like? Okay. So I guess what I mean is there are a lot of kid's toys out there, like a lot of the piano keyboards that are made for children aren't really that complex. And that they might only have one sound and actually when you open them up, the circuit board's pretty simple and so maybe something like that wouldn't have a whole lot of potential. But of course, I say that with caution, because this one has a very, very simple circuit board inside of it and I was able to make something pretty cool out of it, so that's not always the case but it's usually a pretty good kind of approach to pick something that already has a lot of diverse sounds in it. Something like this for example, I love this kind of thing because--let's turn it on, okay. There's a lot of sounds in a circuit board like this. I mean you not only have a little keyboard down here but each of this buttons has its own little sound to it, 26 letters of the alphabet and four different settings so that means something like this has got a lot of sounds sort of in the microchip that stores the sounds, and so that means it'll have a lot more possibilities. So that's something to think about when you choose something to circuit bend whether it has kind of a diverse kind of bank of sounds within it and whether you like those sounds and whether it's something that you would want to modify.
