Planing End Grain With a Power Planer

Hi, this is Jon on behalf of Expert Village. In this video clip I will be talking about planing end grain. Now planing end grain is a lot different than planing the face of the side of a board. It is a little bit more tricky and if we just go along the full length, we will probably just blow out the end. As you can see it started to splinter here a little bit and it is just not going to give us an end product. A better method would be to run our planer about half-way, stop and then turn it around and come the other half. This will eliminate the end of our stock from getting damaged. So now we have a nice finish and both ends are still crisp.
