How To Serve in Table Tennis Doubles

Hi, this is Jared from Expert Village. And, in this section I want to talk to you about doubles serving. Now, this is significantly different than singles serving because you have two players and you have to alternate. Now, whats interesting about this, is that no matter if your right handed or left handed. The rule is every serve you have serve from your right corner to your right corner. Even if your left handed, your still forced to stand on the right side and serve into the opposite corner. In singles you can serve anywhere on the court. But in doubles, if you serve straight across, you lose a point. You have to serve and land on the opposite corner. Now, after you serve, that's when you switch so your opponent takes your place and he receives a serve from their team. So, you alternate. So, that you serve and you switch. When you receive the serve and once your done receiving, then you are in line to serve next. Now, in doubles serving, there's a couple of fun things you can do to advance your play. One is, signals to your opponent. Since your playing doubles you want to have great communication to make sure your on the same page. Well, if your opponent is very good offensively at making attack. You want him to know that your gonna serve a topspin serve so he can know whats coming back at him. So, the good thing to do is before you serve, go under the table with your hand and show a motion that would say, "hey". This is going to be topspin. Or, "hey"' this going to be under spin or sides pin or debit. And, can be all kinds of signals. That helps your opponent know that they're going to be getting back under spin or topspin. Since the opponent will usually mirror what kind of shot you do in order to return it. This is a strategy so that in doubles you can play to your partners strengths and your opponents weaknesses.
