Sewing a Triangle-Top Custom Bikini

JENNIFER CROW: Hi, this is Jennifer and I'm the owner of wedgiewear.com, and we're here with Expert Village. And now that you have cut out your patterns, what you're going to do now is to start sewing. This is--a good part right now is to look at your suit to kind of see if there's any noticeable uneven spots or something like that that you can just trim up real quick, and then you can start sewing. The easiest thing to do is to start sewing with your top. Now that you have all your patterns and everything all cut out, you also need to think about--if you're doing a triangle top, you need to think about the string that ties around the back and also ties around the neck. So you just need to cut out some pieces of fabric here, turn it inside out, facing inside out, and just sew it and then you'll pull it through and it looks like this. And again, it's trial and error in this way, too. Again, make 'em longer than you think that you're actually going to need, and you're going to need two of these because they're going to be the strings that tie up from here. Another one that you need to think about is the one that you pull through for the triangle. You can kind of maybe use your arms or something as a length. Just measure it again just to see how you would like it. Again, it's the same sewing procedure, as if just kind of turning around and sew it down. And then the last thing that you need to think about, as well, is if you're doing a type of suit--what we're doing here, it has a band on top of the suit, and so you want to cut out your band for that as well. You can use this as a different fabric or the same fabric. It doesn't really matter; it's up to you. So this is the one for the bottom. Now, once you have all these set out, you're pretty much ready to sew.
