Nutritional Myths About Vegan Lifestyles

WHITNEY TESLER: Hi, I'm Whitney Tesler on behalf of Expert Village and we're going over how to become vegan. There are several myths about being vegan. We're going to go over a few so that you'll be better informed. Myth no. 1: Vegans don't get all the nutrients that they need. The truth to that is that vegans can get 100% of all the nutrients they need as long as they eat variety in their diet. I recommend eating many colors of fruits and vegetables so that you know that you're getting a variety and also tofu is great. It's very versatile. And the only deficiency that vegans really run a risk of is vitamin B12. And vitamin B12 is actually found in animal bacteria so it makes taking a supplement sound good all around. Myth no. 2 is that vegans eat weird food which is not true. Vegans may experiment more and come up with some creative dishes but overall, many vegans eat at regular restaurants like I said before, Mediterranean, Mexican, Chinese, Thai, Ethiopian. There's so much out there and all you just need to do is go try, ask people and find out what you can and can't eat.
