Advanced Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Side Control Technique

This is Don Daly representing expertvillage.com and in this clip we are going to demonstrate side control technique. Okay a lot of times from the takedowns or from passing the guard we are going to take what is called the side control position. Side control means I am on side of him if I just pass the guard. I am going to bring my chest down here. Okay chest to chest, right over the top to his sternum here. I want to be here okay I don’t want my weight over here, he can throw me or roll me this way. I don’t want it here because it is easy for him just to turn in. So we are going to weigh him down heavy, one hand is going to be in his hip on the mat, so we are underneath here, so when we place the hand on the hip we come under, put the fingers under here and hold. So we are going to slide down under the hip, hold here, that is going to block him from re-guarding. So hand in the hip, sternum to sternum, my weights down and I want to keep my hips low to the ground. Okay hips have to stay low. If my hips are high he has got room to turn his knees and start to reverse the position, bad for me. So I keep my hips nice and low. Now the only time I want to take my hand away from his hip, if I want to work on this arm, I may be working on a choke, I need to take my knee on the same side, slide up to his hip, that block him from re-guarding then I can work on what I want to work on. If I take my hand, I start to work on his hand and I leave that open. He is going to slide his knee in, okay he is going to re-guard. So important to keep something in the hip either your hand or your knee. So again hand is in the hip, fingers on the mat, chest to chest, weigh him down.
