Restringing a Guitar for Finger Picking

STEVE ANTHONY: On behalf of Expert Village, my name is Steve Anthony. I'm here in New York City. Today, I'm going to talk a little bit about some beginning guitar picking techniques. Well, if you play hard enough and long enough, you're going to break a string so this is as good time as any to talk about how to replace a broken string. So let's pretend that--oops--I just popped s string. Hopefully, it'll never look quite that dramatic but if it does, you'll know what to do. First step is to gently, with a pair of needle-nose pliers, release the bridge pin, set it aside. For goodness' sake, don't lose it. You'll be in big trouble if you do. Make sure you've extracted the string ball from the bridge and then moving up to the headstock of the guitar, we'll unwind the old string gently, carefully, just like that. Don't try this at home. I'm an expert. And we'll, hopefully, have a fresh string standing by. If you have a guitar technician, you probably don't need this video so you're going to be doing this yourself. And in a moment, we're going to discuss just exactly how to replace the string.
