Musical Genres in Guitar Finger Picking

STEVE ANTHONY: On behalf of Expert Village, my name is Steve Anthony. I'm here in New York City. Today, I'm going to talk a little bit about some beginning guitar picking techniques. Let's talk a little bit about the various musical genres and how they lend themselves to finger picking or flat picking. We talked a little bit about country music just a minute ago, in a previous clip, and country playing works pretty well with flat picking because you can do that driving bass, strum pattern. But you can also do a finger picking for country. It's a little bit more mellow. But if you get into a more rock and roll or rock blues, you definitely want to use a flat pick. You can definitely hear the difference there between finger picking and flat picking.
