Finger Picking Arpeggios on Guitar

STEVE ANTHONY: On behalf of Expert Village, my name is Steve Anthony. I'm here in New York City. Today, I'm going to talk a little bit about some beginning guitar picking techniques. What I'm doing right now is a simple arpeggio, and that simply means progressing up and down the notes of a chord. It's probably the simplest finger picking technique that you can do. As you can see, I'm just going up and down the notes of the chord. This happens to be a C major chord. If I wanted to alternate the bass note in there, I could do that, too. That's getting a little complicated. We don't want to step too far out of our comfort zone here. But, again, the arpeggio you play in any chord. This happens to be a C major, we can do it in an A minor. Sounds a little bit more mysterious, doesn't it?
