Piano Solos with Good Stage Presence: Part 1

ALEX BOYE: Hi. everyone. My name's Alex Boye. We're here on behalf of Expert Village and we are talking about how to not suck on stage, how to develop stage presence. Stage presence, you're not born with it. You learn it. Okay? Anyone can learn stage presence. It's the most simplest thing and once you get it, it's beautiful. It's absolutely amazing. It's like a--anyway! So we're going to talk right now about soloists, okay? Soloists who--to develop stage presence for the soloists. So now, [PH] Mark, what I want you to do is I want you to play the last part of your song, okay? So like as if you're ending your song. I want you to drop into that right now. Let's go. Was that it? MARK: Yeah, that was it. ALEX BOYE: Are you sure? Are you sure? MARK: Yeah. ALEX BOYE: Alright. Okay. Alright. See? Now, who was that for? MARK: Everyone. ALEX BOYE: That was for everyone? MARK: Yeah. ALEX BOYE: Okay. Well, here's the thing. Right in the end there, it didn't feel like you meant it. MARK: Oh, really? Okay. All right. ALEX BOYE: Do you know what a trash can ending is? MARK: Yeah? ALEX BOYE: You know it's ending is where it goes, [START SONG] "Um. Ke-now-ke-now-wa-keoww-wham! [END SONG] And then you wait for your people to clap your hands. You wait for your people. I didn't see that. MARK: Okay. ALEX BOYE: Okay? So, when you end your song, you're going to tell them that you're done! It's not [START SONG] "da-da-da-da-dan." [END SONG] See how good I am, then you're like-- that's not how you end the song. Right there, you're saying, "You know what? The song is kinda alright and just"--right here you got to tell them, "The song is finished!" and it's--see whatever you tell the audience, they will do. You gotta show them. You gotta show them what to do. Okay? When I come back on the other end, we're going to show my homeboy how to it properly get some serious ladies 'cause he's single right now. It's about time he got some women. So, we're going to help him out. Alright? Okay. On the other side. Later.
