Guitar Solos with Good Stage Presence: Part 3

ALEX BOYE: My name is Alex Boye, we're here for Expert Village, and I'm talking to you about how to not suck onstage, how to develop stage presence. So, right here, we have a guitarist, singing guitarist, alright? In my opinion, sometimes it can be one of the most boring shows once the guitarist just gets up here and sing his darn song, alright? So, I want to talk to you about how to break it up and make it more exciting. So, we have a thing now. Let me hear you do your chorus. Do your chorus. MIKE: [START SONG] Let it be. Let it be! Let it be, yeah, let it be. Whisprin' words of wisdom, let it be. [END SONG] ALEX BOYE: Alright, stop there. You're cool. This is perfect, alright? See that, he's got his things there. He moved away from the mic when he's using the microphone doing his thing, when he's not singing, step away from the microphone. You're the superstar, not this. Step away, you don't need it, alright? You could do your solo or whatever is it. Now, here's the other thing. You're going to give people--and this might sound strange, alright? People who are hooked on drugs, okay, when they have a certain drug, when they go back and get another hit, and this is not personal experience, I have a lot of friends who are in this though, in this situation, it has to be stronger. They can't come back and take the same. They have to take a stronger drug. And when another hit, they have to take a strong one and a stronger one. Now, it's the same thing with your audience. You gotta keep giving them more and more. I'll tell you for example, you're doing that "Let It Be" song, alright? Now when you do your next chorus, now you gotta intensify it. Alright? You gotta intensify it. So, now this time, maybe even if you change it, change the way that you play it, alright? Let it, bam! Bam! Let it, bam! Bam! Tchk. Bam! Bam! Tchk. Bam! Bam! See, oh, why you've done there, the audience are like, "Oh, okay. He got a little something, something off his sleeve." You know what I mean? MIKE: Yeah. ALEX BOYE: So, the most important thing, meat, salad, change it. When you go to a restaurant, you eat your meat, then you eat a salad, when you go back to the meat, it tastes good again. Same thing with this, okay? Keep building. See you on the other side.
