How to Build a Top Platform for a Spiral Staircase
Hi! I am Weldon Moon on behalf of Expertvillage.com. I am going through another step of building spiral staircase. What I want do is show you this platform and the importance of this, you cannot hook a spiral staircase right to the edge of the deck, you have to move out the radius of your spiral staircase plus enough room for your hands to go past. So you have got to be at least that far away from your deck in order to build this and have it work. So this extent is how we build the 36 inch radius spiral. This will get us out past that distance and then have enough room to put railing. On here and to hook into, so we have got our pipe that will come up here and we will screw that. On the final step and then we will also, when we get out the site we will attach the railing, handrail onto this and connect it to the railing on the deck. One of the things that is important here is just to give them some structures. So that when you walk on it, it is not giving and it is uncomfortable for the people or it creates a big hole in the middle and it maybe a nice area that is an ice-skating ring on top and that is not a good thing for going down steps. So what we will do is we will take and build some cross pieces supports underneath it to make sure it is stiff enough to hold and not give when people walk on it. Also take in a piece of four inch pipe spread it and saddle it, so it will fit onto a four inch pole at the center of the spiral.
